3.1 REFLECTION
Alhamdulillah, first and forever, I would love to thank Allah for everything. On 15th September 2011, we have been asked to apply our ELE 3104 assessment in teaching. Therefore, we have to present our lesson plan that we have prepared earlier for the English Language Teaching Methodology For Young Learners task.
From my observation, many of my friends have chosen standard 3 syllabuses for their micro teaching processes. I thought, maybe it was going to be easy for them to prepare a lesson plan and at the same time to do the micro teaching as the topics are easier and do not involve complex learning such as grammar in writing. For me, I have determined to choose year 4 topic that was Let’s Write and focusing on Grammar skill which was Irregular verbs. I would like to challenge my self with the difficulties that I would have faced that I saw not many of us have put this as their targets or aims. Grammar as we know it is a major problem in learning English for Second Language for Malays. So here, I really liked to have the real situation of teaching English at school. So it would be easy for me to find the problem which is to be assumed as weaknesses.
There were three skills that I was focusing on and it went with three levels respectively. For the first level, it was Read aloud words, pronouncing correctly. For the second, Listen to and repeat correct words and the third were Match words to other words and write simple sentences with the words given. As stated on my lesson plan, we can refer the Learning outcomes and student prior knowledge, teaching aids, generic skills and moral values that have devoted in the lesson.
I admit, it was my first time doing this lesson plan and I have faced many problems and it kept encountering me again and again. My major problem was choosing the best activity for certain stage. It was not hard to produce the idea, but it was hard when I had to rethink whether the activity chosen is suitable for student’s level, syllabus, time and space and many factors that could be related in the coming lesson. So the activities that really were available that time was limited.
Nevertheless, the teaching was running smoothly and the problems were solved by lecturer’s favors. I had to satisfy with my effort even I have not done my best and I hope I can do better next time. The teaching process has really helped me in developing my skills in teaching. I have recognized my strengths, weaknesses and a few improvements to be implemented in the future.
Strengths
The strengths of my teaching basically held on my chosen activities. As you can refer on my lesson plan sheet, I have provided interesting event for teaching and learning activities which were game on set induction, listen and repeat and singing at presentation, verb matching at practice, crossword puzzle at production and wheel of verbs at closure. If I was the student, I would have never been bored in the class. Kids generally portrayed with playing games, having fun and easy to lose attention. Therefore, the activities were prepared to tackle those problems from occurring during my class. My pupils would not play other games if my games are more interesting than theirs. So, the strength that I would like to high light here is the activities that I have planned were good enough to attract pupils’ attention to stay focus in learning.

The fact that I have decided to use all those activities was reasonable. I thought analytically in choosing activities for every stage in steps. It is because, the activity chosen plays important role in making my pupils understand and to ensure the learning outcomes could be achieved at the end of the lesson so that the lesson would not waste time. Here is another challenge emerged as I have stated earlier. The activity must be knowledgeable, and suitable for syllabus. Therefore, here I had to use my creativity and twist my brain to adapt the lesson into games and attractive activities. What I was looking for was meaningful learning. If my interactive activities stand alone without any benefit, I should not teach English in school. But here, I have managed to make my pupils understood about the focused skill which was irregular verbs. At the presentation stage, I have well planned the activity with teaching aids usage. The reason was, the pupils will more memorize the words by reading cards than they do without it. It retain on their mental image longer then usual because of the combination of a few senses. The way I taught also involved repetition which I asked my pupils to repeat after my pronunciation upon certain verbs in present tense and past tense forms. They were parroting me perfectly. Wozniak once said:
“Effective learning must be based on repetition”
( Dr. Piotr Wozniak 1998)
Here my goals were listening and pronouncing the words given correctly. Despite the timing was a little bit off, but they pronounced them well.
The next strength of mine is the usage of interactive teaching aids and materials. I have used slideshows, words cards, envelopes of word cards for verb matching, cross words puzzle worksheet and wheel of verbs for my activities. The materials I used were suitable with the activities executed. All the materials and aids were built in good looking way and fascinating. I knew children well. They love bright colours as we can find it on television cartoons and animations. Therefore, I have made my teaching aids way too bright in colour so they would love them beside, it would be easy for them to read words on it as it is contrast. Now my teaching aids really helped them. Regarding to several resources, colours play important role in studying, memorizing words. So, they were lucky to have the aids.

I also have acted nice in front of my mock pupils. Acting as a nice teacher, I praised them, gave them thumb up and present to encourage them in learning. As a result, the pupils seemed happy and motivated. It is called positive reinforcement. Real children would appreciate their teacher’s gift even it is not big enough to be announced. It means, if a teacher gives their student a present, surely it motivates them to be good in front of the teacher and next to be good in learning.

So, giving praise and present are one of best method to motivate and control our pupils and classroom.
Weaknesses
There were lots of weaknesses that I immediately realized after I have done micro teaching. Even though the activities that have been prepared were interesting for kids, I have forgotten one important main point. If I was the pupil, I was a boy. Therefore, there are certain activities planned were sort of boy game such as wheel of verbs and game of memorizing. Mean while there were certain activities that seemed only girls involved. What am I saying is, the class involvement has not fully happened. It can be said that the boys enjoyed playing with the boys and vice versa. With that, the essence of moral values that I would like to apply to them not really worked. Singing would be one of the best activities I can include in my lesson. According to a scholar:
“It is an activity that may be enjoyable irrespective of age, gender, culture, ethnically or religion.”
( Hughes 2007)
The next weakness is on me. While the teaching executed, I totally forgot about the time management. It happened maybe because I was nervous by the time I entered the micro teaching class. This is because I have never taught English before and it was my really first time applying the method taught. I have spent a lot of time for induction set and I have taken a lot of times to think and recall the steps in the lesson prepared. Therefore, the gaps between the steps looked dull and I was quite anxious at those times.
Improvement
For the first problem, the boys and the girls would not cooperate nicely in doing activities which means the class involvement was weak. It was like the boys have their own activities and so that with the girls. They were not cooperating to each others as I had planned. As the problem solver, I have to think advance. The activities should not have been racial and gender bias. I should have prepared activities that would attract boys and girls to cooperate each others, play and discuss each others. The team work between girls and boys would produce excellent results. The information shared would bring benefit to each other. So, my point here is, I should have thought more careful in choosing the best activity to avoid gender bios. Or maybe I could have combined those activities that executed so the boys and girls could play and learn together.
For the second problem, It emerged because of my anxiety and reckless. I was so nervous that I have taken lots of times to calm down and recall the steps in my teaching process. I suppose this happened because I have prepared the materials just a day before the event occurred. Therefore, I was not well prepared even thought I have done the preparation before the teaching. Technically, I was not familiar with my aids and materials and I did not practice as if I was an excellent teacher. Therefore, the answer to my problem is of course to prepare the materials earlier so that I can muster the aids that I built. I should have been better prepared then my usual preparation. That is what a trainee does.

Energetic in chemistry, reflection
Reflection
Assalamualaikum. First and foremost, I would love to Thank Allah for everything. This semester, I am obligated to take Energetic in Chemistry coded SCE 3109. In this subject, we learn about energetic in chemistry. It explores about energy, the first law of thermodynamics, thermochemistry, electrochemistry and nuclear chemistry. 24 February 2011, my friends and I were given a task for this subject and we were required to finish it within a few weeks.
The tasks ought us to collect all kinds of information regarding to the topics in the electrochemistry. Then we had to finish the assignment according investigating trough electrochemistry. We were required to collect and compile information from ten related articles about this subject. So, I went to library to collect the information in a few books that I found. Internet was such a compulsory media for me to get the information rapidly with a lot of amount. We also collected the information from a few journals. Even the facilities were everywhere; still it was a challenging task for me because it required me to use my brain for analytic and scientific thinking.
After I have done the research, the next problem came after I realized that the concept maps have to be built based on our understanding regarding to the articles. As I said, it needed me to really glace at my researches and make a scientific thought. From the articles, we have used the understanding and create our own way to make a short notes and mind maps. From these activities, I have learnt how to find the key words and understanding the question requirements. The topic was not easy to understand and to be acquired. So, it was depending on ourselves how to finish the job and make it quiet presentable. From these activities, I also have understood more and have gone deeper about the subject. This is because I have to understand the articles and acquire it before the mind map construction. Now I know what is redox reaction, what is EMF, how to use Standard reduction potential, how the metal get rusted, batteries and few more. So, I hope this knowledge could be used for examination and more in the future in being a good teacher
In order to complete the Energetic in Chemistry study and the assignment as well, we as the science students have to do six experiments which were related the topic learnt. They were not that easy to be done, yet we managed to make it clear and the precautions were taken with the guidance of Tn. Hj. Mazlan and En. Latif bin Hamzah .Those experiments were actually really exiting because they have elicited our curiosity. Every time when the experiment was about to run, we felt the excitement even not all of the experiments ran exactly like we thought. The apparatus was already prepaid. Therefore, we just have to finish the experiment according to the procedures and requirements. Those experiments really helped us in learning and understanding about the topic practically. No doubt, hands on activities do help kids in learning. All the data that we have got were collected and analyzed. Some of them were tabulated.
Other then that, we had to prepare presentation and answer the entire questions related to each PCK in the classroom. These activities were very important in evaluating our achievement and to know how much our understanding have gone. The PCKs that my friends and I have done were related to the topic learnt.
I was doing my best to finish this task. From what have I understood, there were three levels of specification that would be touched and would be seen by the coordinator. They were, Acquisition of knowledge, Mastery of skills and Transfer of knowledge skills. Therefore, we have to acquire all these three levels. Attitude and personality also will be judged and that makes the fourth aspect. The commitment and collaborations should have been done. It means I had to show my involvement in completing the tasks. However, I am not a perfect human being. There were certain mistakes and weaknesses in finishing the tasks. First of all was time. I have taken a lot of time in order of thinking. I have used a lot of them when I did not know how to begin this coursework. I did not know how the assignment should have begun with. So was it when I was doing the mind maps. I have taken a lot of time to choose the points and to transfer them in mind map shaped. Actually, it was all about confidence. I should have been more confident while finishing this coursework. I also need to meet and make appointments with any lecturers more often so I could have seen the ideas.
For the practical reports, I did manage to do it carefully but it ran not so well. So, as the moral, I should have read and done some revisions before begin the experiment. I also should have learnt more how to tabulate data that I have got from the experiment so they would be more arranged and tidy. So that it would be easy for me to analyze them and conclude.
Other weakness that I found in myself was lack of discussion with peer. This kind of conference is actually very important because, from it we may know what is our weaknesses, strength, what we lack of, what should be added and more advantages will be found when we compare our work with others. Therefore, we could have done the correction after we done the discussion.
Even I have faced many problems while doing these tasks; I have managed to finish the assignment as well as I could. The problems faced such as misconception about the task, mechanical problem and many more. I also have to finish the task with others subject assignment. Therefore, I really had to manage my time properly and spent a few time for this assignment. I really felt grateful after my friend and I have finished the task given steps by step and time by time. Taking this opportunity, here I would like to thank tn. Hj. Mazlan bin Mohd Noor for his favors and guide. Without him, maybe I could not finish the task and fulfill the task acquirements. So, one again I want to thank to all that involved in finishing this coursework. All the defects and flaws that I made, I would like to apologize. Thanks a million.

micro and macro teaching report
Micro-teaching Report
In this semester, we have learnt a lot about lesson plan and have been exposed of macro-teaching and micro-teaching. Therefore, in order to complete the SCE 3108 coursework, we have to do a lesson plan and present in macro-teaching. In 12/8/2010, I have done a micro teaching as the task given. I have chosen year four lesson to try out my skills. Multimedia utilization was chosen as my skill to be improvised in front of my pupil’s friend. Under the theme investigating living things, my learning objective was understanding that humans have basic needs. My learning outcomes were a) Identify the basic needs of human. b) Give reasons why humans need food, shelter, air and water and c) Act related to the learning objective. Therefore, within ten minutes, I have to finish up my lesson by using multimedia utilization skill.
In my teaching, the pupils have already known that humans need to eat. So I just have to continue their understanding deeper. The students’ cognitive level was good in learning. My multimedia presentation was power point slideshow. The facilities that I needed were a computer and a projector to present out my slide show. The slide show was made carefully to ensure the students to stay focus in learning and would not feel bored and sleepy. I have learnt a few techniques and skills to maximize my power point slide show usage so it would be more interesting and can attract all kind of student.
While the lesson in progresses, I have identified a few strength that I should apply in the next teaching training or in real of application. The strength was the slide show used. It has attracted all the ten pupils in the class. All my friends that have acted as the pupils mesmerized toward slideshow. They focused on what was I going to teach and explain about. All the teacher trainees pupils looked like curious on how was I made the slideshow. It means, it would be able to attract the student to stay focus in the lesson and pay attention toward multimedia in front. The slideshow was made interactively with full of colours and using an attractive font. A few pictures were also loaded together with the names in the slideshow so the students would not feel bored and make them easy to remember about the lesson.
Another of my strength that I can see from the video recorded is, my sense of humor. I do not know if what I have done does not count as a joke. But all the students seemed happy and chuckled. Therefore, my lesson would not be bored and the relationship between the student and the teacher would be closer. We also can get rid out the stress and tension faced by any student and teacher and can cure mind sickness as well. It is one of the elements to be a great teacher. The lesson taught would be more interesting if a few funny things included. Therefore, in my opinion, a comedian teacher is among the best.
Even though, there were still weaknesses in my teaching skill. I have identified those only after I have done my micro-teaching. After a few discussions and reflection session with my friends and lecturer Che Rahim Che Din, A lot of things that I have done must be improved. The most first thing that we have identified was the way I spoke and gave the explanation. It was too rapid and not clear. Many words could not be heard by the student. So, the lesson or messages that I have taught might be not delivered. I was more on explanation too. So the chance for the student to involve in teaching and learning was too little. It would be pathetic if the lesson could not be understood by the student and they just shut it up without telling the truth. So, the things just go on and would affect the students’ examination.
My next weakness that my friend and I have identified is the movement in the classroom. My movement and motion in the classroom was a little bit rigid. I was walking and talking just around the computer and the slide. It seemed like the relationship between the student and teacher was not too good. So, the student would feel ignored and could disturb the student focus. Feeling being observed and treat is important to the student so they may not feel alone. We as a teacher should be able to be their friend and know about their life and problems.
Therefore, to gain my power in teaching, I have to accept all the comments and opinions. Firstly, I have to be easy while in the class. So to get rid of bad emotion, I have to do a light exercise before entering any class to do a lesson. I have to take a deep breath and let it out slowly. I have to talk slower then what have I done before and keep the pronunciation clear. My voice also should be louder so that the pupils at the back would not feel sleepy. One more thing about voice is, I have to speak with an attractive intonation suitable with contain spoken. Therefore the student would always look at their teacher.
I also have to change my movement and the path I walk in teaching. As I have mentioned earlier, I should go to the student directly and join them in teaching and learning process. Sometimes, they should go in front to join me. There is no wrong as long as the learning outcomes achieved. A teacher should make good relation with their student with a little chats and jokes so that the student would feel convenient with the teacher. The teachers have to concern about all their students and ensure that all the students are in well and always ready for lesson.
I really hope this experience would help us in this coming practical and more in being a great teacher. Hoping the teaching skills to improve, we have to accept all the comments and suggestions given and still welcoming for the next experiences. All the advices would be useful and we would like to say thanks for those who have helped me finishing the task.
Macro-teaching Report
In order to complete SCE 3108 coursework, I have to finish a macro teaching as the task given. In 29th of august 2010, I had my forth School based experience for a week. This was my opportunity to complete my macro-teaching after I had experienced micro-teaching before. The school that I have gone to was Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Dato’ Abdul Hamid 2 in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. Because of the title chosen, I have to take year four class to be my experiment student. The class that I asked to enter was 4 Terbilang that was the first top class at the school. The total of the student was twenty four consist of ten boys and fourteen girls. The period that I got was the last period 12:15 until 1:15. So the students were waiting for the bell to ring to go home.
Under the theme investigating living things, my learning objective was understanding that humans have basic needs. My learning outcomes were a) Identify the basic needs of human. b) Give reasons why humans need food, shelter, air and water and c) Act related to the learning objective. The student had already known about human do breathe and eat. Therefore, my job was to explain more and tell them those are the basic need of human. For this session, I have prepare a few teaching aids such as a short video, a power point slide show and flash card. I had asked the teacher permission to take her class earlier.
When I walked into the classroom, the silent class became noise and they smiled at me. In my opinion they were welcoming me as their new teacher. Firstly I told them about being a replace teacher just for that period and told them that I had permission from their science teacher. I asked the monitor who was not here. There were two boys have not attended that day. Before the lesson begun, a refreshing activity was conducted by me to reduce the sleepy mood. They seemed happy and smiled at me. Firstly, I was planning to show them a video related to the lesson that I was going to teach. But, the class that I entered has no LCD. They told me that the school only have LCD projector in the laboratory. Even though, I have no choice and by using my own laptop, I ask them to gather in front to watch the video. All of them gave their attention on the screen and seemed interested. After a few questions, the got what was I going to tell and teach them. Therefore, my plan was success. I got their attention and they became curios. Therefore, one advantage identified.
I continued the lesson with the power point slide show. For me, power point slide show is more interesting and attractive stuff then using chalk and talk. The slideshow was made interactively with full of colours and using an attractive font. As the result, the students were always looking at the slideshow and it would make the student stay focused in the learning process. A few pictures were also loaded together with the names in the slideshow so the students would not feel bored and make them easy to remember about the lesson. The second advantage was found.
For the next activity, I have divided the students into a group of five. So, there were four groups built. I have given a flash card to each group. The flash cards have different type of picture. There were food, a women gasping for air, a shelter and water. They were asked to discuss and present their results in form of action. I asked them to act in front of the class. While they were presenting, they seemed happy and I heard they laugh. This activity looked suitable for their level. Besides of having fun, they could memorize the lesson that has been taught. They have applied the lesson in other form.
A work sheet was given to each of them in a form of language game. I gave them ten minutes to complete and answer the entire questions given. I allowed them to discuss each other to find the answer. I did not mind the noise made. After the time give has end, I have chosen a few student to read the question and give the answer. All of them have given correct answer. In my opinion, this is the advantage of discussion. They may refer their answers each other. Applause for them. At the end of the lesson, I asked a few student what they have leant that day. All of them seemed know about what they have learnt.
As the closure, I have asked three of the students to reflect about the topic taught that day. Two of them could answer the question correctly and one of them answered not accurately or not really exact.
Even though, there were still weaknesses in my daily lesson. My friends and I have identified the weaknesses after have done the teaching. First of all, not all the students have paid attention while the lesson in progress. There were student discussing about other things and did not concentrate in learning. A student was sleeping at the back and a few students seem did not understand about the topic taught. Therefore, we may conclude that the student felt bored and what we have taught was not delivered. Besides, a few students did not involve in exercise at the beginning. The teaching aid used was not attractive enough. The lesson also has lack of hands-on activity. Therefore, certain students have not completely involved in the learning process.
After my friends and I have discussed and analyzed the macro-teaching that I have done, a few suggestions or recommendations were made. Firstly, we have to be more assertive in teaching, so the student would obey our instructions and would fulfill the lesson requirement. Our voices also must be clear and loud to be heard. So the student may understand the massages and easier to acquire the topic taught. Next is, the teaching aid used must be suitable and have student involvement. It means, the student may use the teaching aid in learning so the student may not feel boring. Hands-on apparatus also must be included in the lesson for any activity. So, the activity would be more fun and may involve all the students. We also would like to recommend the teacher movement must be completely all over the class. The teachers have to concern about all their students and ensure that all the students are in well and always ready for lesson.
From all these experiences, I as a future teacher really hope that it can improve my teaching skill and performance with in front of my students. In this semester, we have learnt a lot about lesson plan and have been exposed of macro-teaching and micro-teaching. Therefore, in order to complete the SCE 3108 coursework, we have to do a lesson plan and present in macro-teaching. In 12/8/2010, I have done a micro teaching as the task given. I have chosen year four lesson to try out my skills. Multimedia utilization was chosen as my skill to be improvised in front of my pupil’s friend. Under the theme investigating living things, my learning objective was understanding that humans have basic needs. My learning outcomes were a) Identify the basic needs of human. b) Give reasons why humans need food, shelter, air and water and c) Act related to the learning objective. Therefore, within ten minutes, I have to finish up my lesson by using multimedia utilization skill.
In my teaching, the pupils have already known that humans need to eat. So I just have to continue their understanding deeper. The students’ cognitive level was good in learning. My multimedia presentation was power point slideshow. The facilities that I needed were a computer and a projector to present out my slide show. The slide show was made carefully to ensure the students to stay focus in learning and would not feel bored and sleepy. I have learnt a few techniques and skills to maximize my power point slide show usage so it would be more interesting and can attract all kind of student.
While the lesson in progresses, I have identified a few strength that I should apply in the next teaching training or in real of application. The strength was the slide show used. It has attracted all the ten pupils in the class. All my friends that have acted as the pupils mesmerized toward slideshow. They focused on what was I going to teach and explain about. All the teacher trainees pupils looked like curious on how was I made the slideshow. It means, it would be able to attract the student to stay focus in the lesson and pay attention toward multimedia in front. The slideshow was made interactively with full of colours and using an attractive font. A few pictures were also loaded together with the names in the slideshow so the students would not feel bored and make them easy to remember about the lesson.
Another of my strength that I can see from the video recorded is, my sense of humor. I do not know if what I have done does not count as a joke. But all the students seemed happy and chuckled. Therefore, my lesson would not be bored and the relationship between the student and the teacher would be closer. We also can get rid out the stress and tension faced by any student and teacher and can cure mind sickness as well. It is one of the elements to be a great teacher. The lesson taught would be more interesting if a few funny things included. Therefore, in my opinion, a comedian teacher is among the best.
Even though, there were still weaknesses in my teaching skill. I have identified those only after I have done my micro-teaching. After a few discussions and reflection session with my friends and lecturer Che Rahim Che Din, A lot of things that I have done must be improved. The most first thing that we have identified was the way I spoke and gave the explanation. It was too rapid and not clear. Many words could not be heard by the student. So, the lesson or messages that I have taught might be not delivered. I was more on explanation too. So the chance for the student to involve in teaching and learning was too little. It would be pathetic if the lesson could not be understood by the student and they just shut it up without telling the truth. So, the things just go on and would affect the students’ examination.
My next weakness that my friend and I have identified is the movement in the classroom. My movement and motion in the classroom was a little bit rigid. I was walking and talking just around the computer and the slide. It seemed like the relationship between the student and teacher was not too good. So, the student would feel ignored and could disturb the student focus. Feeling being observed and treat is important to the student so they may not feel alone. We as a teacher should be able to be their friend and know about their life and problems.
Therefore, to gain my power in teaching, I have to accept all the comments and opinions. Firstly, I have to be easy while in the class. So to get rid of bad emotion, I have to do a light exercise before entering any class to do a lesson. I have to take a deep breath and let it out slowly. I have to talk slower then what have I done before and keep the pronunciation clear. My voice also should be louder so that the pupils at the back would not feel sleepy. One more thing about voice is, I have to speak with an attractive intonation suitable with contain spoken. Therefore the student would always look at their teacher.
I also have to change my movement and the path I walk in teaching. As I have mentioned earlier, I should go to the student directly and join them in teaching and learning process. Sometimes, they should go in front to join me. There is no wrong as long as the learning outcomes achieved. A teacher should make good relation with their student with a little chats and jokes so that the student would feel convenient with the teacher. The teachers have to concern about all their students and ensure that all the students are in well and always ready for lesson.
I really hope this experience would help us in this coming practical and more in being a great teacher. Hoping the teaching skills to improve, we have to accept all the comments and suggestions given and still welcoming for the next experiences. All the advices would be useful and we would like to say thanks for those who have helped me finishing the task.
Macro-teaching Report
In order to complete SCE 3108 coursework, I have to finish a macro teaching as the task given. In 29th of august 2010, I had my forth School based experience for a week. This was my opportunity to complete my macro-teaching after I had experienced micro-teaching before. The school that I have gone to was Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Dato’ Abdul Hamid 2 in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. Because of the title chosen, I have to take year four class to be my experiment student. The class that I asked to enter was 4 Terbilang that was the first top class at the school. The total of the student was twenty four consist of ten boys and fourteen girls. The period that I got was the last period 12:15 until 1:15. So the students were waiting for the bell to ring to go home.
Under the theme investigating living things, my learning objective was understanding that humans have basic needs. My learning outcomes were a) Identify the basic needs of human. b) Give reasons why humans need food, shelter, air and water and c) Act related to the learning objective. The student had already known about human do breathe and eat. Therefore, my job was to explain more and tell them those are the basic need of human. For this session, I have prepare a few teaching aids such as a short video, a power point slide show and flash card. I had asked the teacher permission to take her class earlier.
When I walked into the classroom, the silent class became noise and they smiled at me. In my opinion they were welcoming me as their new teacher. Firstly I told them about being a replace teacher just for that period and told them that I had permission from their science teacher. I asked the monitor who was not here. There were two boys have not attended that day. Before the lesson begun, a refreshing activity was conducted by me to reduce the sleepy mood. They seemed happy and smiled at me. Firstly, I was planning to show them a video related to the lesson that I was going to teach. But, the class that I entered has no LCD. They told me that the school only have LCD projector in the laboratory. Even though, I have no choice and by using my own laptop, I ask them to gather in front to watch the video. All of them gave their attention on the screen and seemed interested. After a few questions, the got what was I going to tell and teach them. Therefore, my plan was success. I got their attention and they became curios. Therefore, one advantage identified.
I continued the lesson with the power point slide show. For me, power point slide show is more interesting and attractive stuff then using chalk and talk. The slideshow was made interactively with full of colours and using an attractive font. As the result, the students were always looking at the slideshow and it would make the student stay focused in the learning process. A few pictures were also loaded together with the names in the slideshow so the students would not feel bored and make them easy to remember about the lesson. The second advantage was found.
For the next activity, I have divided the students into a group of five. So, there were four groups built. I have given a flash card to each group. The flash cards have different type of picture. There were food, a women gasping for air, a shelter and water. They were asked to discuss and present their results in form of action. I asked them to act in front of the class. While they were presenting, they seemed happy and I heard they laugh. This activity looked suitable for their level. Besides of having fun, they could memorize the lesson that has been taught. They have applied the lesson in other form.
A work sheet was given to each of them in a form of language game. I gave them ten minutes to complete and answer the entire questions given. I allowed them to discuss each other to find the answer. I did not mind the noise made. After the time give has end, I have chosen a few student to read the question and give the answer. All of them have given correct answer. In my opinion, this is the advantage of discussion. They may refer their answers each other. Applause for them. At the end of the lesson, I asked a few student what they have leant that day. All of them seemed know about what they have learnt.
As the closure, I have asked three of the students to reflect about the topic taught that day. Two of them could answer the question correctly and one of them answered not accurately or not really exact.
Even though, there were still weaknesses in my daily lesson. My friends and I have identified the weaknesses after have done the teaching. First of all, not all the students have paid attention while the lesson in progress. There were student discussing about other things and did not concentrate in learning. A student was sleeping at the back and a few students seem did not understand about the topic taught. Therefore, we may conclude that the student felt bored and what we have taught was not delivered. Besides, a few students did not involve in exercise at the beginning. The teaching aid used was not attractive enough. The lesson also has lack of hands-on activity. Therefore, certain students have not completely involved in the learning process.
After my friends and I have discussed and analyzed the macro-teaching that I have done, a few suggestions or recommendations were made. Firstly, we have to be more assertive in teaching, so the student would obey our instructions and would fulfill the lesson requirement. Our voices also must be clear and loud to be heard. So the student may understand the massages and easier to acquire the topic taught. Next is, the teaching aid used must be suitable and have student involvement. It means, the student may use the teaching aid in learning so the student may not feel boring. Hands-on apparatus also must be included in the lesson for any activity. So, the activity would be more fun and may involve all the students. We also would like to recommend the teacher movement must be completely all over the class. The teachers have to concern about all their students and ensure that all the students are in well and always ready for lesson.
From all these experiences, I as a future teacher really hope that it can improve my teaching skill and performance with in front of my students. Exibition report Sem 4
Exhibition Report
26th and 27th of September 2010, an exhibition of Science was held in order to fulfil the coursework requirement. There were three classes have involved and took part in presenting their works. The exhibition was held at Pusat sumber Za’ba Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sultan Mizan. It was opened to all IPG KSM students from 9.00 am until 4.00 p.m.
As the task requirement, 4th batch student were needed to make or build a teaching aids regarding to the lesson plan made. The teaching aids must be presented to the public and examined by visitors. It must be friendly user and effective for learning usage.
For me, I have shown my ICT power point slide show, models for teaching and flash cards. Related to my lesson, Basic Needs of Humans, I have designed my ICT interactively so that the pupils would attract to the slide and stay focus in learning. I have maximised my skill to make the slide show easy to be used, such as hyperlink and action buttons.
For the models, it was made up by card board so it can stand still. The house model purpose is to elicit the student ideas about the topic. By showing the model, a few questions would be asked related to the house.
Flash card usage is to gives an impression to the student about the topic. It is use in Restructuring phase where the student are asked to form a group in five and act regarding to the flash card given.
Like other student, my teachings aids also were examined by visitors. A few recommendations were suggested. One of them was, the house model must be more colourful and must by built in way of easy to carry it. For the ICT feedback was quite impressive. They have suggested designing a simple game to be loaded in the slide show so that the lesson would be more fun.
As the conclusion, all the feedbacks given will be considered in future planning. All your suggestions were welcomed. I would like to thanks to all science lecturers and friends in making this exhibition and gave this opportunity for me to show my ability. Thank you

hai.!!! welcome
Assalamualaikum.. this is a blog that i created to share some assignment and assessments that i have done. This blog's purposes is actually to collect all my assessments in IPG kampus Sultan Mizan so that i would not lose them. hopefully i can gather all of them and with their presence, it would remind me of my campus that i will be leaving next year.
